Mtakataka Secondary School

Mtakataka Secondary School is a secondary school at Mtakataka, a market centre in Dedza District, in the Central Region of Malawi. The Malawi Electoral Commission's 2025 register of centres lists Mtakataka CDSS, the community day secondary school at Mtakataka, as a polling centre in the Makhamba ward of the Dedza Mtakataka constituency, under Dedza District Council. Other centres in the same ward include Mtakataka CCAP School, Mtakataka RC School, Mtakataka Police Primary School and the Mua School for the Deaf. Community day secondary schools grew out of the former distance-education centres, which were converted in 1998, and take day students rather than boarders. Secondary education in Malawi runs from Form 1 to Form 4 and ends with the Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examination, set by the Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB). Dedza District lies south of Lilongwe, between the Mozambique border and Lake Malawi. Mtakataka is one of its smaller market centres, in the eastern part of the district, where the M5 road between Salima and Balaka runs parallel to the lake. Nearby Mua is home to the Kungoni Cultural Centre, whose museum displays the cultural heritage of the peoples of central Malawi, and the district also contains the Chongoni Rock Art Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
