Champagnat Community Day Secondary School

Champagnat Community Day Secondary School is a community day secondary school (CDSS) in the Chimbiya ward of Dedza District, in Malawi's Central Region. The Malawi Electoral Commission's 2025 register of established voter registration centres lists Champagnat CDSS as a centre in the Chimbiya ward of the Dedza Linthipe constituency, Dedza District Council. An article on champagnat.org, the international website of the Marist Brothers, names Champagnat Community Day Secondary School in Dedza among the Malawian schools where the Brothers were implementing their interventions, together with Marist Secondary School in Dedza and Likuni Boys Secondary School in Lilongwe. The article adds that the Marist International Solidarity Foundation (FMSI) and the Brothers' Secretariat of Education and Evangelization were jointly implementing two projects in Malawi. The Marist Brothers are a Catholic congregation of lay religious brothers devoted to the education of young people. The congregation was founded in France in 1817 by Marcellin Champagnat, who was canonised in 1999, and it now works in 79 countries. Secondary education in Malawi runs from Form 1 to Form 4 and ends with the Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE), set by the Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB). Community day secondary schools grew out of the former distance-education centres, which were converted into secondary schools in 1998. Dedza District lies south of Lilongwe, between Mozambique and Lake Malawi, and had 830,512 residents at the 2018 census. Its administrative centre, Dedza, stands off the M1 about 85 km south of Lilongwe, and the district contains the Chongoni Rock Art Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
