How verification works

A verified tick means one thing: we checked and the business exists. It is not a quality rating, a recommendation, an endorsement, or something you can buy.

We confirm it several ways. A registration certificate or trading licence, reviewed by a person. A six-digit code emailed to the address already listed, which takes about two minutes. A phone call to the listed number. The business's own website, or a social media account it clearly maintains. Sometimes simply visiting.

Existing is not the same as being run well, and it is not the same as being claimed. Claimed means someone has proved they run the business and is maintaining the page. Verified only means the business is real. A listing can be one, both or neither, and the page says which.

Changing the business name, address or phone number removes the tick until it is checked again. A tick that survived a listing being silently repointed at a different business would be worthless.
