Providence Girls Secondary School

Providence Girls Secondary School is a girls' secondary school at Chisitu in Mulanje district, in the Southern Region of Malawi. In 2024 the school was one of those visited by the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) during its Safer Internet Day outreach. Malawi's national computer emergency response team, mwCERT, reports that the visit to Mulanje and Providence Girls secondary schools covered cyberbullying, which most students did not know to be a crime punishable by law, along with online fraud, sexual exploitation and trafficking, as part of a campaign on digital skills and safe online habits run in all three regions of the country. Its candidates also appear in public university admissions: the University of Malawi's first-year selection list for the 2025/26 academic year includes students entered from Providence Secondary. Secondary education in Malawi runs from Form 1 to Form 4 and ends with the Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE), set by the Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB). The MSCE is the qualification on which selection to the public universities is based. Chisitu lies in the Mtenjera ward of the Mulanje Central constituency, where the Malawi Electoral Commission's 2025 register lists Chisitu School as a registration centre. Mulanje district covers 2,056 square kilometres, had 428,322 residents at the 2018 census, and is known for its tea estates and for Mount Mulanje, one of the highest peaks in southern Africa. Fees, term dates and admission procedures have not been published online, so it is worth phoning ahead before travelling.
