About

M'buka CCAP Church is a congregation of the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) in Lilongwe, Malawi. M'buka is also the name of a part of the city: the Malawi Electoral Commission's 2025 register of centres, in its Lilongwe City Council section, lists a Lilongwe City M'buka constituency, with M'buka School as a polling centre in its Mwenyekondo ward. The CCAP was formed on 17 September 1924, when the Livingstonia and Blantyre synods, which grew out of the Free Church of Scotland and Church of Scotland missions, united. The Nkhoma Synod, which grew from the Dutch Reformed Church mission that began work in central Malawi in 1889, joined in 1926. The church now has five synods: Livingstonia in the north of Malawi, Nkhoma in the centre and Blantyre in the south, together with the Zambia Synod and the Harare Synod in Zimbabwe. In 2024 its synods reported a combined 3.1 million members. Lilongwe became Malawi's capital in 1975, replacing Zomba, and is the country's largest city, with 989,318 people at the 2018 census. It takes its name from the Lilongwe River and is divided into numbered Areas. The congregation's synod, service times and contact details have not been published online, so service times are best confirmed locally before travelling.
