About

Ndirande Hill Progressive Private Secondary School is a privately run secondary school in Ndirande, a township north-east of the centre of Blantyre City in southern Malawi. Ndirande Hill also gives its name to a full primary school, Ndirande Hill F.P. School, which the Malawi Electoral Commission's 2025 register for Blantyre City Council lists as a polling centre in Ndirande-Makata ward. In Malawi, secondary education runs from Form 1 to Form 4 and ends with the Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE), set by the Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB). Pupils enter Form 1 after completing Standard 1 to Standard 8 of primary school and sitting the Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE), also set by MANEB. Private secondary schools sit alongside government schools and community day secondary schools (CDSS), which grew out of the former distance-education centres converted in 1998, and prepare candidates for the same national examinations. Ndirande is a large, densely settled township below Ndirande Mountain, one of the peaks that surround Blantyre together with Mount Soche, Michiru Mountain and Chiradzulu Mountain. Blantyre was founded in 1876 through the missionary work of the Church of Scotland and is Malawi's second-largest city and its centre of finance and commerce, with 800,264 residents at the 2018 census. The school has not published its fees, term dates or admission arrangements online, so it is worth phoning ahead before travelling.
