Builders Mart Shakawe

Builders Mart Shakawe is a hardware store at Plot 2244 in Shakawe, a village in the far north-west of Botswana, bearing the name of the Builders Mart hardware chain. Builders Mart is a Botswana chain of hardware and building-materials stores with its head office at Plot 14389, New Lobatse Road, Gaborone. According to the chain's own history, its first shop opened in Lobatse in 2000 under the name Build It; the business became Choppies Hardware in 2004, Choppies Build & Save Hardware Stores in 2011 and Builders Mart Hardware Stores in 2013. The chain's website sells building materials, roofing, fencing, doors and windows, bathroom fittings, electrical goods, paint, wall and floor finishes and tools, and it has announced new stores in recent years at Tati Siding, Masunga and Kazungula. Those ranges describe the chain as a whole rather than this branch. Shakawe stands on the Okavango River in the north-west corner of Botswana, close to Namibia and Angola, where the river enters the country on its way to the Okavango Delta. It is a border village with a crossing towards Namibia's Caprivi Strip, and the Tsodilo Hills, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its rock paintings, lie about 40 kilometres away. The 2011 census counted 6,693 residents in the village itself. Maun, the regional centre, is about five hours away by bus.
