ABC CHRISTIAN ACADEMY

ABC Christian Academy is a Christian international day school in Area 47, Lilongwe, operating as a ministry of African Bible Colleges Inc. Its five-hectare campus adjoins African Bible College, whose sports field and multi-purpose gymnasium the school uses. It was founded by Dr Paul Chinchen and his wife Laura Chinchen, of the family that founded African Bible Colleges; Laura Chinchen serves as Acting Superintendent following Dr Chinchen's death on 6 July 2022. The school's stated purpose is to provide a quality Christian education in a Christian environment for the Christian families of Lilongwe. The school teaches the American system, with graduation requirements of required and elective courses matching those of a United States high school, and covers pre-Kindergarten and Reception through to Grade 12. It is structured as Lower Elementary from Reception to Grade 1, Upper Elementary from Grades 2 to 5, and Upper School from Grades 6 to 12. Core subjects at every level are English and language arts, mathematics, social studies, science and Bible. Upper School adds history and geography, art and electives, physical education, computing, health, Spanish, drama and a weekly chapel. Younger pupils take weekly library, computing, physical education, music and art. Assessment uses MAP testing in upper elementary and the SAT in high school, leading to an American high school diploma. Enrolment stood at 300 students from 27 different countries, with about 325 projected for the autumn 2026 intake against a record of almost 350 in 2018; several grades have waiting lists. Sports teams compete as the ABCCA Rhinos and swimming runs through the ABC Stingrays Swim Club. Admission involves an online application with a fee, placement testing, and an appointment with the office to arrange payment and buy uniform. Fees may be paid in Malawi kwacha or United States dollars.
