Mount Sinai International School

Mount Sinai International School opened on 6 September 2004 in Area 14, Lilongwe, built on the vision of the late Mrs Mary Kaphweleza Banda. It is a co-educational day school teaching both Malawian and international students with a mixed national and international faculty, and runs across two purpose-built campuses, a Junior Campus and a Senior Campus. The school follows the Cambridge curriculum throughout and is an accredited Cambridge Assessment International Education centre. Provision runs from Nursery and Reception to IGCSE: Junior School covers Reception to Year 3, Middle School Years 4 to 7, and High School Years 8 to 11. Pupils sit Cambridge Primary Checkpoint in Year 6 and Cambridge Lower Secondary Checkpoint in Year 9, then IGCSE, taking seven mandatory subjects alongside two optional ones. Subject breadth includes separate sciences, ICT, commercial subjects, language and literature, environmental management studies, and fashion and fabrics. An International Pre-University Programme runs at post-IGCSE level. Examinations are sat in June with results in August. Facilities include two science laboratories, two ICT laboratories, a library, a specialised music room and art room, a multipurpose hall, an indoor sports complex, a swimming pool, two large playing fields and cafeterias on both campuses. Clubs span karate, ballet and contemporary dance, chess, public speaking and debate, sewing, maths and science, instrumental music and choir, and team sports including football, netball, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, badminton and swimming. A four-house system of Panther, Leopard, Cheetah and Puma competes for a house cup, prefects are appointed in Year 7 and student leaders in Year 11, and remedial lessons are available from Reception. Teaching staff number 40, supported by administrative staff and around 30 grounds and support staff.
