Woolworths trades at Sebele Centre in Gaborone. Sebele Centre opened on 27 June 2011, built under Time Projects and owned by Prime Time, a property company listed on the Botswana Stock Exchange. Its first phase covered 9,000 square metres with a second phase of 10,000 square metres under construction at opening, and Woolworths and Pick n Pay were named among its tenants alongside restaurants, hardware and furniture shops, professional services and a bureau de change. This is Woolworths Holdings Limited of South Africa, a food and clothing retailer listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. It is unrelated to the Australian Woolworths Group and to the former F. W. Woolworth Company of the United States. It was founded in 1931 with a first store in Cape Town by Max Sonnenberg, working with his son Richard, and sells groceries, clothing, homeware, cosmetics and financial services. It reported around 1,591 locations in 2025. Woolworths bought back its African franchise stores in 2013, converting 33 stores across Botswana, Namibia, Swaziland and Ghana from franchises to corporate ownership, and by June 2014 reported 22 stores in Botswana selling food and clothing.
