Tawuka Private Secondary School

Tawuka Private Secondary School is a privately run secondary school near Chilumba, in the south of Karonga District in Malawi's Northern Region. Secondary education in Malawi runs from Form 1 to Form 4 and ends with the Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE), set by the Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB). Private secondary schools enter their candidates for the same national examination as government schools. Pupils reach Form 1 after completing Standard 8 of primary school and sitting the Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE), also set by MANEB. Alongside private schools, secondary places are offered by government boarding and day schools and by community day secondary schools (CDSS), which grew out of the former distance-education centres converted in 1998. Chilumba lies on the western shore of Lake Malawi at the southern end of Karonga District, about 73 kilometres by road south-east of Karonga town, the district headquarters. It has long been the northernmost port of call of the lake steamer MV Ilala. Karonga District borders Tanzania to the north. The school has not published its fees, boarding arrangements, term dates or contact details online, so it is worth asking locally in Chilumba before travelling.
