Plan B Lodge

Plan B Lodge is a lodge in Liwonde, a town in Machinga District in the Southern Region of Malawi. Liwonde lies in the Shire River valley on the road between Zomba and Lilongwe, at a crossroads between Balaka, Machinga, Mangochi and Zomba. Its station is one of the most important on the Nacala railway, which runs west towards Nkaya and Mwanza and east to Nayuchi and the Mozambican port of Nacala. The town had 36,421 residents at the 2018 census, up from 8,694 in 1987. The town also serves as the access point for visitors to Liwonde National Park. Established in 1973 and managed by African Parks since August 2015, the park covers 548 km² along a 30 km stretch of the Shire River and borders Lake Malombe; it lies largely in Machinga District, with a smaller part in Mangochi District. It is known for its elephants and for more than 380 bird species, and cheetahs, lions and black rhinoceros have been reintroduced there since 2017.
