Liwonde Community Day Secondary School

Liwonde Community Day Secondary School is a community day secondary school (CDSS) in Liwonde, a town in Machinga District in Malawi's Southern Region. Secondary education in Malawi runs from Form 1 to Form 4 and ends with the Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE), set by the Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB). Community day secondary schools are day schools, whose students attend from home; the category grew out of the former distance-education centres, which were converted into community day secondary schools in 1998. Liwonde lies in the Shire River valley, on the road that connects Zomba to Lilongwe, and is a crossroads between Balaka, Machinga, Mangochi and Zomba. It has one of the main stations on the Nacala railway and serves as the access base for visitors to Liwonde National Park. The town had 36,421 residents at the 2018 census, up from 8,694 in 1987.
