Phwezi Boys Private Secondary School

Phwezi Boys Private Secondary School is a private secondary school for boys at Phwezi in Rumphi District, in the Northern Region of Malawi. The Phwezi Foundation, a Malawian education foundation, was formed in 1981 with German financial assistance by a group of four Malawians that included the diplomat Timon Sam Mangwazu, Morton Chipimpha Mughogho and Alec Nyasulu, twice Speaker of the National Assembly. The secondary school the foundation created at Phwezi was divided in 1986 into separate boys' and girls' schools, Phwezi Boys and Phwezi Girls. Secondary education in Malawi runs from Form 1 to Form 4 and ends with the Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE), set by the Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB). The Ministry of Education's Free Secondary Education initiative, which removes tuition and most other fees, applies to public secondary schools rather than to private schools. Rumphi District covers 4,769 square kilometres of the Northern Region, with its administrative centre at Rumphi town. Much of the centre of the district lies on the Nyika Plateau within Nyika National Park, Vwaza Marsh Wildlife Reserve covers its western end, and Livingstonia is among its main settlements.
