MRA Lilongwe Domestic Taxes

MRA Lilongwe Domestic Taxes is a Domestic Taxes office of the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) on Chilambula Road in Lilongwe, Malawi. MRA's Domestic Taxes Division administers and enforces the Taxation Act, the Value Added Tax Act and the Customs and Excise Act. The taxes it collects include corporate tax, Pay As You Earn (PAYE), provisional tax, fringe benefit tax, withholding tax and VAT. MRA's Taxpayer Charter, dated October 2017, sets national service standards for its offices, including: - income tax registration in 1 day, available by walking in to any MRA office - VAT registration in 2 days - tax clearance certificates in 2 days - VAT relief certificates in 2 days, for a K10,000 processing fee - withholding tax exemption certificates in 1 week - account updates in 2 days - objections acknowledged within 3 days and processed within 2 weeks - walk-in and telephone enquiries answered in 1 day, written enquiries in 3 days, and website or email enquiries within 24 hours The charter also says walk-in clients are seen within 10 minutes with an appointment and within 20 minutes without one. The Malawi Revenue Authority was established by an Act of Parliament in 1998 and officially launched in February 2000. It describes itself as an agency of the Government of Malawi responsible for the assessment, collection and accounting of tax and non-tax revenues, and it is organised into Domestic Taxes and Customs and Excise divisions. Its head office is Msonkho House, Independence Drive, Blantyre. Lilongwe replaced Zomba as Malawi's capital in 1975 and is now the country's largest city.
