Michiru CCAP Private Primary School

Michiru CCAP Private Primary School was officially opened on 18 November 2012 and is run by the Michiru CCAP congregation in Chilomoni, Blantyre. The congregation belongs to the Blantyre City Presbytery of the Blantyre Synod, Church of Central Africa Presbyterian, and maintains a standing School Board among its committees. The congregation itself began in the mid-1960s, when Christians from Chilomoni Township established a prayer house on the initiative of the late Mr Saulos Khoromana, alongside Mr Mnenula, Mr Msewa, Mr Yobe and Mr Boldwin Tsakama. It was upgraded from a prayer house to a session in 1984, with Rev. Felix Chingota as its first resident moderator and Mr Boldwin Tsakama as session clerk. Construction of the church building began in August 1985 under Mr Fenneck Gunda and was funded through youth drama, door-to-door collections, choir festivals and special Sundays. The congregation takes its name from the nearby Michiru hill, and has overseas partner churches in Wexford Community Presbyterian Church and Craigiebuckler Parish Church. The congregation has stated plans to build a secondary school and a technical college alongside the primary school.
