Water Utilities Corporation - Sedibeng House

Sedibeng House is the head office of the Water Utilities Corporation (WUC), Botswana's state-owned water utility, in the Industrial Site area of Gaborone, Botswana. WUC's audited annual financial statements give its registered office as Sedibeng House, Plot 17530, Luthuli Road, Industrial Site, Gaborone, and its postal address as Private Bag 00276, Gaborone. The building also houses the corporation's tender room. A WUC request for expressions of interest issued in September 2021 directed bids to the Corporation Secretary at the Tender Room, Sedibeng House, Plot 17530, Luthuli Road, Old Industrial Site, Gaborone. According to the same financial statements, WUC was established under the Water Utilities Corporation Act of 1970 (Chapter 74:02 of the Laws of Botswana), is wholly owned by the Government of Botswana, and exists "to provide potable water supply and wastewater services in the whole country". WUC began in 1970 with a single water supply and distribution project in what was then the Shashe Development Area. Water sector reforms carried out between 2009 and 2013 extended its responsibilities to water supply and wastewater management across the whole country. Its infrastructure includes five major dams, Gaborone, Nnywane, Bokaa, Shashe and Letsibogo, and the North-South Carrier, a pipeline about 360 kilometres long. Gaborone is the capital and largest city of Botswana, with 246,325 residents at the 2022 census. It lies between Kgale Hill and Oodi Hill, near the confluence of the Notwane and Segoditshane rivers, within 15 kilometres of the South African border.
