Hardware Emporium Gaborone is a hardware store in Gaborone, the capital of Botswana. Gaborone became the capital when the Bechuanaland Protectorate gained independence as Botswana on 30 September 1966. The site was chosen partly because it was not associated with any one ethnic group and lay close to a supply of fresh water. Planning began in 1964, and the town grew from 3,855 residents that year to about 18,000 by 1971; it went on to become one of the fastest-growing cities in Africa. The city lies between Kgale Hill and Oodi Hill, near the confluence of the Notwane and Segoditshane rivers, in the south-east of the country and within 15 kilometres of the South African border. At the 2022 census it had 246,325 residents, about a tenth of Botswana's population. The store has not published its product range, prices or a contact number online.
