PEP Palapye Junction is a branch of the PEP clothing retail chain in Palapye Junction Mall, on the Main Road in Palapye, Botswana. PEP is a budget retail chain founded in South Africa in 1965 by Renier van Rooyen. It sells clothing, footwear and homeware, and is part of Pepkor, a Cape Town-based retail group listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange since September 2017. Palapye is a growing town in Botswana's Central District, roughly halfway between Francistown, about 170 km away, and Gaborone, about 240 km away, and is linked to both by the A1 highway and the national railway. Its population was 52,398 at the 2022 census. Nearby are the Morupule power station and colliery, the main source of Botswana's domestically generated electricity, and the Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST), which began operating in 2012. Old Palapye, or Phalatswe, was the capital of the Bamangwato under Khama III from 1889 to 1902.
