Ackermans Palapye Junction

Ackermans Palapye Junction is a branch of the value clothing retailer Ackermans, in Shop 1 at Palapye Junction on Main Road, Palapye, in Botswana's Central District. Ackermans belongs to the South African retail group Pepkor. Ackermans was founded in 1916 by Gus Ackerman, whose first store was in Wynberg, Cape Town. Pepkor bought the chain in 1984, when it had 34 stores; by 2024 it had more than 1,000. Its head office is at Kuilsrivier, near Cape Town. The chain sells clothing, clothing accessories, footwear and homeware, together with cellular products and financial services, and trades across southern Africa, including in Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho and Eswatini. Pepkor Holdings, headquartered in Cape Town and listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange since 2017, also owns PEP, Shoe City, Dunns, Tekkie Town and Incredible Connection among other brands, and operates more than 6,000 stores. Palapye lies on the A1 highway, about 240 km from Gaborone and 170 km from Francistown, and the national railway line runs through it. The town had 52,398 residents at the 2022 census and is home to the Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST) and the Morupule A and B power stations.
