A1 Hardware and Electrical

A1 Hardware and Electrical is a hardware store in Selebi-Phikwe, Botswana. Selebi-Phikwe is a mining town in eastern Botswana. It grew up after copper and nickel deposits were found in the area in the 1960s, when a mine and a township were built that joined two small places, Selebi and Phikwe. Nickel mining began in 1973 and was the town's main activity for more than four decades, run by BCL Limited through both underground and opencast workings. The mine stopped operating in September 2016, putting thousands of people out of work. The regional development agency SPEDU works to diversify the town's economy. The town is administered as its own district, separate from the surrounding Central District, and had 42,488 residents at the 2022 census. It also hosts the Botswana Defence Force's Eastern Military Garrison and the Phikwe Marathon, first run in 1985.
