PEP at Kwena Mall on Molepolole Road is a branch of the South African value retailer PEP, founded in 1965 with its first store in De Aar by Renier van Rooyen. PEP is part of the Pepkor group, which confirms Botswana among its countries of operation. Pepkor reports 1,685 PEP stores alongside 552 PEP Cell and 478 PEP Home stores, employing 18,000 people, and describes PEP as the largest single-brand retailer in South Africa. Its separate PEP Africa business, covering operations outside South Africa, runs 221 stores with 1,600 employees and sells clothing, footwear, homeware and cellular products, describing itself as the largest formal clothing retailer in Africa. Pepkor does not publish per-country store numbers for Botswana.
