Zomba ESCOM Customer Care Centre

Zomba ESCOM Customer Care Centre is a customer office of the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) in Zomba, in Malawi's Southern Region. ESCOM describes itself as "a state-owned company mandated to transmit, distribute and supply electricity throughout Malawi". It was incorporated in 1998 following the enactment of the Electricity Act of that year. After the Power Sector Reforms report of 2014 and the Electricity Amendment Act of 2016, the corporation was unbundled and its generation business was carved out to form a separate state-owned company, the Electricity Generation Company of Malawi (EGENCO). Nationally, ESCOM runs a call centre, toll-free lines for the Southern Region and for the Central and Northern Regions, a WhatsApp chatbot, and a mobile app through which customers can report faults, retrieve prepaid tokens, check bills and view outages. Zomba was the capital of the Nyasaland Protectorate and then of independent Malawi until the government moved to Lilongwe in the mid-1970s; Parliament remained in the city until 1994. Zomba lies at the foot of the Zomba Plateau, which rises to about 1,800 m, about 65 km north of Blantyre on the M3, and it is the seat of the University of Malawi. The city had 105,013 residents at the 2018 census. The centre's own telephone number, opening hours and counter services have not been published online.
