Tokatoka Guesthouse & Restaurant is a guesthouse with a restaurant in Karonga, the main town of Karonga District in Malawi's Northern Region. A guesthouse in Malawi offers overnight rooms on a smaller scale than a hotel, and one with a restaurant also serves meals. Karonga lies on the north-western shore of Lake Malawi and is reached from Mzuzu along the M1, which continues north towards the Tanzanian border. The town had 61,609 residents at the 2018 census. The Cultural and Museum Centre Karonga displays the Malawisaurus, a dinosaur whose fossils were found in the district, and remains of early hominins have also been found in the area. Rice, cotton and maize growing and fishing on the lake are the mainstays of the local economy. In December 2009 the area was struck by a series of earthquakes. Room rates, the restaurant's menu and opening times, and a contact number have not been published online, so travellers should confirm a room locally before relying on it.
