St. James CCAP Church is a congregation of the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) in Blantyre, Malawi. The CCAP was formed on 17 September 1924 by the union of the Livingstonia and Blantyre synods, which had grown out of Scottish Presbyterian missions; the Nkhoma Synod, founded through the Dutch Reformed Church of South Africa, joined in 1926. The church now has five synods: Blantyre in the south of Malawi, Nkhoma in the centre and Livingstonia in the north, with the Zambia and Harare synods beyond the country's borders. It is the largest Protestant denomination in Malawi. Blantyre itself grew from the Church of Scotland mission founded there in 1876 and is named after David Livingstone's birthplace in Scotland. The mission's St Michael and All Angels Church was built between 1888 and 1891 by local workmen under the missionary David Clement Scott. Today Blantyre is Malawi's centre of finance and commerce and its second-largest city, with 800,264 residents at the 2018 census. Service times and the congregation's synod have not been published online, so it is worth phoning ahead before visiting.
