St. Augustine 3 Full Primary School

St. Augustine 3 Full Primary School is a full primary school in Nkanamwano ward of Mangochi, a town near the southern end of Lake Malawi. The Malawi Electoral Commission's 2025 register of centres lists "St. Augustine III School" as the only polling centre in Nkanamwano ward, in the section for Mangochi Municipal Council, and names St. Augustine III TDC (teacher development centre) as the tally centre for the Mangochi Municipal constituency. The same register lists two other schools in the series: St. Augustine I in Ndege ward and St. Augustine II in Mwasa ward. A full primary school covers all eight years of primary education, Standard 1 to Standard 8, ending with the Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE), set by the Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB). Tuition has been free in government primary schools since 1994. Mangochi was known in colonial times as Fort Johnston, having been founded in the 1890s by the administrator Sir Harry Johnston as a British defence post. It had 53,498 residents at the 2018 census and is governed by Mangochi Municipal Council, separately from the surrounding district. Most of its people are Yao, and at the 2018 census 72.67 per cent of Mangochi District's residents were Muslim. The town is home to the Lake Malawi Museum and to a clock tower erected in honour of Queen Victoria.
