Plascon Blantyre is a paint shop trading under the Plascon brand in Makata, Blantyre, Malawi. Makata is one of Blantyre's eight designated industrial areas, alongside Ginnery Corner, Maselema, Limbe, Chirimba, South Lunzu, Maone and Chitawira. Plascon is a South African paint manufacturer and a subsidiary of the Japanese group Kansai Paint; it makes decorative, industrial and automotive paints. The business traces its origins to a paint company that Herbert Evans started in Johannesburg in 1889. It took the Plascon name in 1949, when it joined with Chrome Chemicals, and was acquired by Barloworld in 1970. After Barloworld's unbundling in 2007 it was owned by Freeworld Coatings, and in 2011 Kansai Paint bought it and renamed it Kansai Plascon Africa. Blantyre is Malawi's centre of finance and commerce and its second-largest city, with 800,264 people at the 2018 census. It grew from a Church of Scotland mission founded in 1876 and was merged with its sister town of Limbe in 1956. Whether the shop is run by the manufacturer or by an independent stockist, and its product range, prices and trading hours, have not been published online.
