Mota-Engil Malawi - Main Camp

Mota-Engil Malawi – Main Camp is a site of the construction company Mota-Engil Malawi on the D314 road at Zalewa, in Neno District, Malawi. The Ministry of Health's facility registry lists a clinic at the same site, registered as a Mota-Engil clinic and commonly called the Mota-Engil Zalewa Clinic. The registry places it in Neno District, classes it as a clinic under "other" ownership, and records it as non-functional. Mota-Engil is a Portuguese group working in civil construction, public works, port operations, waste, water and logistics, with its headquarters in Porto. The Mota-Engil Group was constituted in 2000 after the Mota family's takeover of Engil, and its holding company, Mota-Engil SGPS, is listed in the PSI-20 index of Euronext Lisbon. The group lists two companies in Malawi, Mota-Engil Malawi and the Malawi Shipping Company, both with offices at Nasra House in Lilongwe City Centre. Neno District, in Malawi's Southern Region, was created in 2003 when Mwanza District was split in two under the decentralisation programme, and it had 138,291 residents in 2018. Zalewa is a small town on the Shire River at the boundary between Neno and Blantyre districts, and a police checkpoint stands by the bridge over the river.
