Mepic Schools is a private school in Balaka District, in the Southern Region of Malawi, teaching at both primary and secondary level. In Malawi, primary education runs from Standard 1 to Standard 8 and ends with the Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE), set by the Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB). Secondary education runs from Form 1 to Form 4 and ends with the Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE), also set by MANEB. Tuition has been free in government primary schools since 1994, while private schools charge fees. Balaka District was created in 1998 from part of Machinga District and had 438,379 residents at the 2018 census. Its headquarters, Balaka township, stands on the road between Zomba and Lilongwe, about 130 km north of Blantyre and 200 km south of Lilongwe, and had 36,308 residents in 2018. The district's best-known institutions include the Andiamo Vocational Complex, St Louis Montfort Catholic Church and Montfort Media, a printing press in the township.
