Mayani Trading Center

Mayani Trading Center is a trading centre, a small rural market settlement, in Dedza District in Malawi's Central Region. It shares its name with the Dedza Mayani parliamentary constituency. The Malawi Electoral Commission's constituency and ward boundary descriptions place Mayani Trading Centre on the T375 road: the boundary of the Chilanga ward runs south along that road from Mphalabungu Village to the trading centre, then west to Ngolonje Village. The same document describes the Dedza Mayani constituency as comprising the whole of Traditional Authority Tambala and the north-eastern part of Traditional Authority Chauma. In the commission's 2025 register of centres, the constituency is divided into the Chitundu and Chilanga wards, and its tally centre is the Chitundu teacher development centre (TDC). Dedza District lies between Mozambique and Lake Malawi, south of Lilongwe, and had 830,512 inhabitants at the 2018 census. Farming is mostly by families on smallholdings. The district headquarters, Dedza township, is 85 kilometres south of Lilongwe off the M1 road and, at 1,590 metres, is the highest town in Malawi. The district also contains the Chongoni Rock Art Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Kungoni Cultural Centre at Mua. As a settlement rather than a single business, Mayani has no single operator, telephone number or set opening hours; individual shops and traders keep their own hours.
