Magawa Secondary School

Magawa Secondary School is a secondary school on the M12 road in Mchinji District, in the Central Region of Malawi. The Malawi News Agency, the government news service, reported in November 2024 that police in Mchinji had arrested three students from the school after students set fire to the head teacher's office; the report said the fire followed a decision to call 21 students to a disciplinary hearing. Magawa is also the name of a ward of Mchinji District Council, in the Mchinji Central East constituency, as listed in the Malawi Electoral Commission's 2025 register of centres. Secondary education in Malawi runs from Form 1 to Form 4 and ends with the Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE), set by the Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB). Mchinji District lies in the west of the Central Region, on the border with Zambia. The M12 runs west from Lilongwe through Mchinji Boma to the Mwami border post, the main road crossing to Chipata and eastern Zambia. The school has not published its fees, boarding arrangements or admission procedures online, so it is worth phoning ahead before travelling.
