Kawere Primary School

Kawere Primary School is a primary school near Mponela in Dowa District, in the Central Region of Malawi. The Malawi Electoral Commission's 2025 register of centres lists Kawere F.P. School as a polling centre in the Mpanda West ward of the Dowa Central constituency, within Dowa District Council. F.P. stands for full primary, meaning the school teaches the complete primary cycle. The ward's eight other centres are also full primary schools, among them Mponela I and Mponela II. Primary education in Malawi runs from Standard 1 to Standard 8 and ends with the Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE), set by the Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB), which is used to select pupils for secondary school. Tuition has been free in government primary schools since 1994. Mponela is a trading town on the tarred road between Lilongwe and Mzuzu, about 60 kilometres north of the capital. It is chiefly an agricultural centre, and its population grew from 9,846 at the 1998 census to 24,543 in 2018. Whether the school is run by the government or a church agency, and its enrolment, head teacher and contact details, have not been published online, so it is worth asking locally in Mponela before travelling.
