Gumede Hardware is a building materials store in Mzuzu, in Mzimba District in northern Malawi. Its address, Box 949, Mzuzu, is a post office box rather than a street location. Mzuzu is the capital of Malawi's Northern Region and the country's third-largest city, with 221,272 residents at the 2018 census. It grew up around the Commonwealth Development Corporation's tung oil estate, established in 1947, and was given city status in 1985. The M1, the highway that runs the length of Malawi, passes through the city, and the M5 begins there and heads east towards Nkhata Bay. The city is the commercial centre of the north, trading in coffee, timber, fruit, milk and honey, and it is home to Mzuzu University, founded in 1999.
