Chirimba Container Terminal Ltd - CCTL

Chirimba Container Terminal Ltd (CCTL) is a container terminal company in Blantyre, Malawi. Chirimba, from which it takes its name, is one of Blantyre's eight designated industrial areas, alongside Makata and Limbe, and is also a ward of Blantyre City Council; the Malawi Electoral Commission's 2025 register places the ward in the BT City Michiru-Chirimba constituency. Malawi is landlocked, and its container traffic reaches the sea through ports in neighbouring countries. Blantyre's railway links it with the Mozambican ports of Beira and Nacala. Inland terminals, sometimes called dry ports or inland container depots, allow containers to be stored, handled and cleared away from the coast, closer to where goods are used. Blantyre was founded in 1876 through the missionary work of the Church of Scotland and became a municipality in 1895, making it Malawi's oldest. With 800,264 residents at the 2018 census, it is the country's second-largest city and its centre of finance and commerce. Limbe, 11 kilometres to the east, merged with it in 1956, and Chileka International Airport lies about 14 kilometres from the city.
