Chileka Health Centre

Chileka Health Centre is a government health centre at Chileka, on the north-western edge of Blantyre in southern Malawi. The Ministry of Health's national facility registry lists it under facility code BT240202 as a functional health centre in Blantyre District, owned by the government, with Chileka as its common name. Health centres are the first level of Malawi's public health system above community health posts. They provide outpatient and preventive care for the surrounding catchment area and refer patients who need hospital treatment onward. Care at government health facilities in Malawi is generally provided free of charge. The same registry lists a separate facility nearby, Chileka SDA, a Seventh-day Adventist health centre in the Christian Health Association of Malawi (CHAM) network, about five kilometres to the north-west. A government health centre also named Chileka Health Centre serves an area of the same name in Lilongwe District. Chileka is best known for its airport, about 13 kilometres by road north-west of Blantyre city centre, which serves the city and began as a few tin huts put up around 1934. Long known as Chileka International Airport, it was renamed Bakili Muluzi International Airport in August 2025. Opening hours, the services offered and a public telephone number for the centre have not been published online, so it is worth checking locally before travelling.
