Blantyre Legal

Blantyre Legal is a law firm in Blantyre, Malawi's main commercial city, in the country's Southern Region. Legal practice in Malawi is regulated by the Malawi Law Society, established under section 63 of the Legal Education and Legal Practitioners Act. Every legal practitioner needs a licence issued by the society in order to practise, and licences expire on 31 January each year. The society reports at least 957 licensed practitioners for the 2026/27 practice year and at least 185 registered law firms. It publishes an annual list of licensed legal practitioners and notaries public, and an online members' search, which can be used to check a practitioner's standing. Blantyre grew from a Church of Scotland mission founded in 1876 and is named after David Livingstone's birthplace in Scotland. It remains the country's main commercial and industrial centre. The Supreme Court of Appeal has its seat in the city, as does the principal registry of the High Court, and many of Malawi's law firms have their offices there. The firm has not published its practice areas, partners or fees online, so an appointment should be arranged by telephone before visiting.
