WUC Francistown Office

WUC Francistown Office is an office of the Water Utilities Corporation (WUC), Botswana's state-owned water utility, in Francistown, Botswana. WUC supplies water to the cities of Gaborone and Francistown and to the towns of Lobatse, Jwaneng, Selebi-Phikwe and Sowa. The corporation is organised in two administrative divisions: a South region based in Gaborone and a North region based in Francistown. WUC was established in 1970 by an Act of Parliament (Cap 74:02) and is owned by the Government of Botswana. At its establishment it managed a single project, the supply and distribution of water in what was then the Shashe Development Area. Between 2009 and 2013 the water sector was restructured, and the corporation was given a new mandate to supply drinking water to all urban centres and villages across the country and to manage wastewater and sanitation services. Its assets include the Gaborone, Nnywane, Bokaa, Shashe and Letsibogo dams, the North South Carrier pipeline, water treatment plants and pumping stations. The head office is Sedibeng House, Plot 17530, Luthuli Road, Gaborone. Francistown is Botswana's second-largest city, with 103,417 residents at the 2022 census. It lies where the Tati and Ntshe rivers meet, about 400 kilometres north-north-east of Gaborone and 90 kilometres from the border with Zimbabwe, and was founded in 1897 as a settlement near the Monarch mine.
