Tlokweng Brigades

Tlokweng Brigades is a public technical and vocational education and training (TVET) provider in Tlokweng, South-East District, Botswana, immediately east of Gaborone. The Botswana Qualifications Authority (BQA) registers Tlokweng Brigades as an education and training provider under number ETP0296, in the public category. Its accreditation was granted on 12 December 2019 and runs to 11 December 2029. BQA's register of programmes accredited on the National Credit and Qualifications Framework (NCQF) lists six for the brigade, in three trades, each at Certificate III (NCQF Level 3) and Certificate IV (NCQF Level 4): - Carpentry and Joinery - Clothing Design and Technology - Hospitality Operations The Government of Botswana delivers vocational training through the brigades and four technical colleges, at Maun, Jwaneng, Palapye and Selebi-Phikwe. The programme is open to citizens and non-citizens aged 16 and over, with the Junior Certificate or BGCSE as the minimum entry qualification, includes learners with special educational needs, and trains up to certificate level. It is run by the Department of Skills Development in the Ministry of Employment, Labour Productivity and Skills Development. The brigades movement itself dates from the 1960s, when the educator Patrick van Rensburg founded it alongside Swaneng Hill School at Serowe. Tlokweng lies across the Notwane River from Gaborone and forms part of the capital's built-up area. It falls under the South-East District Council, had 35,982 residents at the 2011 census and is the home of the Batlokwa; the border post with South Africa is about 15 km to the east. Tlokweng Brigades has not published fees, intake dates or application arrangements online.
