Military base · Mogoditshane
Confirmed by the owner 1 week ago
SSKB Camp is Sir Seretse Khama Barracks (SSKB), the headquarters of the Botswana Defence Force (BDF), in Mogoditshane on the north-western edge of Gaborone, Botswana. The Government of Botswana's online services portal names the barracks as the base for two BDF services open to civilians. The BDF runs a snake capture service for Gaborone and its surroundings from Sir Seretse Khama Barracks, Mogoditshane; it operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and calls are treated as emergencies. The BDF Band's dance band can be hired by government departments, companies, non-governmental organisations and charities, but not by individuals; requests go by letter to BDF Headquarters, which replies in writing within a week. The BDF is Botswana's national armed force. It gives its mission as "To defend Botswana's Territorial Integrity, Sovereignty and National Interests" and its vision as "To be a Professional, Prompt and Decisive Force"; its stated functions include supporting the civil authorities. The force was formed in 1977, and the barracks bear the name of Sir Seretse Khama, Botswana's first President. Mogoditshane is a large village in Kweneng District that adjoins Gaborone and forms part of the capital's commuter belt. The barracks are a military installation, not a public venue. According to the Government of Botswana portal, the snake handlers can be reached on +267 366 2060 or +267 75 669 120, and general enquiries go to the BDF's Directorate of Protocol and Public Affairs on +267 366 2802, +267 366 2157 or +267 366 2089, or by email to info.bdf@gov.bw.
