Square Mart Shopping Complex

Square Mart Shopping Complex is a shopping centre in Palapye, a town in Botswana's Central District. Palapye lies on the A1 highway and the main railway line, roughly halfway between Gaborone, about 240 km to the south, and Francistown, about 170 km to the north-east. Once mainly a stopping point on that route, it has grown into a regional centre for commerce, housing, industry and education: its built-up area has more than doubled since the 1990s, and the 2022 census counted 52,398 residents, up from 37,256 in 2011. Much of that growth has come from the Morupule coal mine and the Morupule A and B power stations close to the town, and from the Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST), which admitted its first students in 2012. Serowe, the administrative centre of the Central District and seat of the Bangwato, lies about 45 km to the north-west. The complex's tenants, trading hours and management contacts have not been published online.
