Sefalana Shopper Kanye 1

Sefalana Shopper Kanye 1 is a supermarket in Kanye, in the Southern District of Botswana, trading under the Sefalana Shopper name of Sefalana Holding Company Limited. Sefalana's own store-locator map lists the branch as "Shopper Kanye 1". The same map shows a second supermarket in the village, "Shopper Kanye 2", a short distance away, and a separate Sefalana Cash & Carry outlet in Kanye. Sefalana Shopper is the group's supermarket format. The company describes it as "34 retail supermarkets trading under the name 'Sefalana Shopper'", distinct from its Sefalana Quick convenience stores, its Cash & Carry wholesale outlets and its Hyper stores. Around 400 independent retailers across Botswana are also affiliated to the group as voluntary franchise members trading under other banners. Sefalana says it came into existence in 1974 and was the first company to list on the Botswana Stock Exchange, in 1979. Kanye is the administrative centre of the Southern District, about 83 kilometres south-west of Gaborone. It is the traditional capital of the Bangwaketse, who settled in the area in the 1790s, and is often described as the longest continuously occupied tribal capital in Botswana. The A10 road links it to Gaborone, and the A2 highway, part of the Trans-Kalahari Corridor between South Africa and Namibia, passes through the village. The 2022 census counted 48,028 residents. Sefalana's website does not give a telephone number or trading hours for its Kanye stores, so phoning ahead before a special trip is advisable.
