Ramotswa Water Utilities

Ramotswa Water Utilities is an office of the Water Utilities Corporation (WUC), Botswana's state-owned water utility, in Ramotswa, South-East District, Botswana. WUC supplies drinking water and handles wastewater services in Ramotswa, as it does across the country. In February 2025 the government's Daily News reported WUC's Greater Gaborone general manager, Kabo Maforaga, as telling a leadership forum of the district council in Ramotswa that the constituency covering Ramotswa, Taung, Boatle, Mogobane and Otse needed 10.41 million litres of water a day but was receiving 9.6 million. He said that only three of the nine boreholes the area originally drew on in the Siga wellfields were working, and that the Boatle treatment plant, completed in 2021, was not functioning because its pipework had failed. In August 2024 the Daily News reported WUC's chief executive, Gaselemogwe Senai, as saying that the first phase of the corporation's prepaid smart-meter programme would include 13,000 meters for Ramotswa, Otse and Tlokweng. WUC was established in 1970 by an Act of Parliament (Cap 74:02) and is owned by the Government of Botswana. Under water sector reforms that took effect in May 2009, it was to take over all potable water services in the country within three years and all wastewater services within five, while the Department of Water Affairs kept responsibility for water resources planning, including dam construction. The corporation's head office is Sedibeng House, Plot 17530, Luthuli Road, Gaborone. Ramotswa is a village south-west of Gaborone and the tribal capital of the Balete. The 2011 census counted 27,760 residents. WUC has not published opening hours for its Ramotswa office online, so phoning ahead before travelling is advisable.
