PEP — Serowe, Boiteko Junction

PEP at Boiteko Junction is a store of the PEP clothing chain at Shop No. 6, Boiteko Junction, in Serowe, Central District, Botswana. PEP was founded in 1965 by Renier van Rooyen and belongs to Pepkor, a South African retail group listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange since September 2017. Pepkor describes PEP as the largest single-brand retailer in South Africa, and PEP Africa, a separate brand in the group, as the largest formal clothing retailer on the African continent, selling clothing, footwear, homeware and cellular products through 221 stores. Serowe was founded in 1902 by Khama III as the capital of the Bamangwato and is one of Botswana's largest villages, with 47,447 residents at the 2011 census. It is the birthplace of Sir Seretse Khama, Botswana's first president, and of Festus Mogae, its third. The writer Bessie Head made her home there and described the village in Serowe: Village of the Rain Wind (1974). Serowe lies west of the main Gaborone–Francistown road, where the road to the Orapa diamond mines begins, and the Khama Rhino Sanctuary is about 25 km to the north.
