Palapye New Police

Palapye New Police is a police station of the Botswana Police Service (BPS) in Palapye, in the Central District of Botswana. The BPS list of police districts places Palapye Police Station in No. 2 District, together with the stations at Serowe, Maunatlala and Serule. Botswana's Daily News reported in July 2013 that construction of a new Palapye police station and staff houses had started in May 2009 at a tendered cost of P146.6 million. The station followed the design used at Kasane but with an additional floor, and the project included 70 new and 30 old houses. The balance of the contract was handed over in June 2012, with P127.2 million paid and the final account still under negotiation. The figures were given in Parliament by the then Minister of Infrastructure, Science and Technology, Johnnie Swartz, answering a question from the Palapye MP, Moiseraele Goya. The BPS organises its work in three pillars: Operations, responsible for front-line policing including police visibility and response to reports; Crime Investigations; and Support Services. Its Gender and Child Protection Unit supports the handling of cases of gender-based violence and child abuse. Palapye lies on the A1 roughly halfway between Gaborone (240 km) and Francistown (170 km); the 2022 census counted 52,398 residents. The town is home to the Botswana International University of Science and Technology, whose campus opened in 2012, and to the Morupule colliery and power stations.
