MD Hardware, Palapye

MD Hardware is a hardware and building materials store in the New Industrial Site of Palapye, a town in Botswana's Central District. Palapye lies on the A1 highway, the main road between Gaborone, about 240 kilometres to the south, and Francistown, about 170 kilometres to the north-east, and on the national railway line. The town had 52,398 residents at the 2022 census, up from 37,256 in 2011. The nearby Morupule Colliery supplies coal to the Morupule power stations, whose A and B plants are rated at 132 and 600 megawatts. Palapye is also home to the Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST), which took its first students in August 2012. The town's history reaches back to Phalatswe, now called Old Palapye, which served as the capital of the Bamangwato under Khama III from 1889 to 1902.
