Maru-a-Pula Mall is a shopping centre in Extension 39, Gaborone, Botswana. The centre shares its name with Maru-a-Pula School, which stands about 400 metres to the south-south-east. Founded in 1972, the school is a co-educational independent day and boarding secondary school that prepares students for Cambridge IGCSE, AS and A Level examinations. Gaborone was founded as a modern town in 1964 and became the capital when Botswana gained independence on 30 September 1966. It was planned on garden-city principles, with numerous pedestrian walkways and open spaces, and the Main Mall remains its principal commercial strip. The city had 246,325 residents at the 2022 census, and its wider metropolitan area 534,842. The centre has not published a list of its shops, its trading hours or its management contacts online, so it is worth telephoning before making a special journey.
