Mabuasehube Camp 4 KTMAB04

Mabuasehube Camp 4 (KTMAB04) is a campsite in the Mabuasehube section of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, in Botswana's Kgalagadi District. The Botswana side of the park is managed by the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (DWNP). Botswana Tourism describes Mabuasehube as a series of large pans set in Kgalagadi tree and shrub savanna with patches of open grassland. The three largest pans, Mabuasehube, Bosobogolo and Mpayathutlwa, lie along the main road, and smaller pans such as Leshologago and Khiding are linked to them by sand tracks. Campsites are spread around the pans, many on slight rises that give a clear view of game from camp. The salt-rich clay floor of Mabuasehube Pan draws animals that lick minerals from the surface, and predators in the area include the black-maned Kalahari lion, cheetah, leopard and brown hyena. The Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park was formed under a 1999 treaty between Botswana and South Africa that joined Botswana's Gemsbok National Park with South Africa's Kalahari Gemsbok National Park; Botswana Tourism describes it as Africa's first transfrontier conservation area. Mabuasehube, in the park's north-east, was formerly a separate game reserve. Botswana Tourism gives the park's area as about 37,000 square kilometres, three-quarters of it within Botswana. The Kgalagadi District's administrative centre is Tsabong. Botswana Tourism advises that booking well in advance is essential and that the park's rough, sandy roads call for well-equipped 4x4 vehicles.
