Lelapa Gardens is a recreation venue in Gaborone, the capital of Botswana. Gaborone is the country's largest city. At the 2022 census the city proper had 246,325 residents, about a tenth of Botswana's population, and the wider metropolitan area 534,842. It lies between Kgale Hill and Oodi Hill, near the confluence of the Notwane and Segoditshane rivers in the south-east of the country, within 15 kilometres of the South African border. The city was laid out from 1964 as a planned capital ahead of independence in 1966. The site was chosen for its fresh water supply, its position on the railway to Pretoria and its central location among the main tribal areas. It takes its name from Kgosi Gaborone of the Batlokwa, and it is the headquarters of the Southern African Development Community (SADC). Facilities, admission charges and booking arrangements at Lelapa Gardens have not been published online, so visitors should phone ahead before travelling.
