Lekidi Football Centre

Lekidi Football Centre is a football facility in Gaborone, Botswana, run by the Botswana Football Association (BFA). It lies behind the National Stadium and serves as the association's headquarters: the BFA gives "Lekidi Centre, P.O. Box 1396, Gaborone" as its official address. The centre has its own pitch. In 2016 the BFA announced that funding from FIFA's Goal Project IV had been awarded to convert the Lekidi grass pitch to an artificial surface. Whether that work has been completed has not been confirmed. Alongside the pitch are residential and meeting facilities. A BFA notice issued in December 2020 lists: - a 20-room hostel block with separate showers, laundry and a common dining area - a double-storey hostel block of self-contained rooms with its own dining area - a meeting room - a kitchen and dining area The same notice invited citizen-owned companies to bid to refurbish these facilities. The BFA is the governing body for football in Botswana. It was founded in 1966 as the Botswana National Football Association and took its current name in 1970. It has been a member of the Confederation of African Football since 1976 and of FIFA since 1978, and it oversees the national teams, including the men's side known as the Zebras. The neighbouring National Stadium opened in 1966, the year of Botswana's independence, and holds about 25,000 spectators. It is home to the national team and to Gaborone clubs including Township Rollers and Gaborone United.
