Institute of Health Sciences Molepolole (IHS)

Institute of Health Sciences Molepolole (IHS) is a government training college for health workers in Molepolole, Kweneng District, Botswana, and one of the six campuses of the Institute of Health Sciences established by the Ministry of Health. The Botswana Qualifications Authority's register of accredited higher education providers lists "Institute of Health Sciences-Molepolole" under registration number ETP0152, in the public category, with accreditation dated 28 February 2019. The Ministry of Health states that it established IHS "to provide training courses for health workers", with campuses at Gaborone, Francistown, Serowe, Molepolole, Kanye and Lobatse. For the 2019/2020 intake it listed these programmes for the institute as a whole rather than campus by campus: - General Nursing - Environmental Health - Health Education - Medical Laboratory Technology - Midwifery - Family Nurse Practitioner The ministry's stated entry requirement is "a minimum of COSC/BGCSE or its equivalent with a minimum grade as specified under each program". The BGCSE, Botswana's senior secondary school certificate, is set by the Botswana Examinations Council. Molepolole lies about 50 km west of Gaborone and is the capital of the Bakwena, one of Botswana's eight major tribes. With 74,674 residents at the 2022 census, it is one of the largest traditional villages in Africa. David Livingstone arrived there in 1853, and the village is also home to the Scottish Livingstone Hospital and Molepolole College of Education.
